ANALYSIS OF CARSONISM By Louis Bruens

<<You can learn more about the value that we attach to the future artistic career of Charles Carson by reading this analysis of his work. Since as early as 1990, Guy Robert, Jacques De Roussan and my self, all three experts in art valuation, have agreed that we are confronted here with an artist of rare talent.

To explain what I mean: it can now be seen that the predictions we made about a decade ago were quite accurate. We are very conscious that the phenomenon of a "Riopelle" Canadian artist, for example, (Sotheby’s sale of a work from the 1950s realized US$1,8M) is one that is not found every day. This time, however, we have in Charles Carson an artist of the same calibre, if he is not superior.>>

STUDY OF THE WORK OF CHARLES CARSON AND THE ANALISIS OF CARSONISME,
BY LOUIS BRUENS

I published, in 1992, an analysis in several languages: CHARLES CARSON A NEW ISME..., Guy Robert, historians of art, published later a book on the work of Charles Carson; thereafter, Jacques de Roussan, writer of art struck by the aesthetic value of the painting of Carson which it described as sublime, ilen produced, him also an edifying analysis.

Detail of the carsonism

“The last forty years spent working in the art market as an art consultant and valuator, the significant research I have accomplished in this field, the surveys conducted over many years by my team, the conferences given across the Province of Quebec, the statistics accumulated over all these years, allow me to affirm that, with respect to the work of Charles Carson, my judgement from the early 1992s has proven entirely accurate. On the subject of investment, my forecasts have proven exactly correct and the work of Charles Carson, at this turning point of the millennium, is acquiring value that is most promising. Indeed, I don’t doubt for a minute that the value of Charles Carson’s art is likely to be very high in the near future.”

“The painting I am discussing here, that one might simply classify as contemporary, doesn’t fall into any obvious category such as Impressionism, Expressionism or Surrealism. For that matter, it doesn’t fall into any other definition of an “ism” either. Instead, I find it comes under another order of values altogether from the styles that one is used to finding on the art market. In my opinion, it is a type of painting that is truly distinct from everything that has been done in the past, and anything that is being done at the moment.”

Principal works by Louis Bruens

Louis Bruens is an art consultant who specializes in the investment sector. After a career of forty years, his professionalism, experience and particularly his remarkable flair for discovering the best buys in the art world cannot be doubted. If any proof is needed, his curriculum vitae is perfectly eloquent. Monsieur Bruens, art consultant and valuator, historian, writer, publisher, scientific expert in art analysis, conference speaker, consultant for both collectors and galleries, has worked in the art field in a professional capacity since 1959. In Germany he occupied the position of General Manager for Europe with British International Finance, and did consultancy work in the art investment field at the same time. He has studied in Europe, principally in the area of techniques for expertizing works of art. From 1959 to 1995 he operated two fully-equipped laboratories, using all the latest technology. The first was for the photographic analysis of works of art and the second for the scientific expertizing of works of art. Recognized within the insurance industry as an art valuator, M. Bruens also possesses a Master’s degree in Psychology and has made a study of graphology for his own personal interest. He has written an overview of the History of Art, from the Judeo-Christian era up to today, as well as a number of books concerned with the scientific expertizing of works of art.
