The awards were given out at a ceremony organized by the association « Italia in Arte » on December 12, 2009 in the city of Lecce in the south of Italy. In awarding these prizes to Master Carson, the jury noted that his career path and artistic approach provided the justification for these honors. The jury praised his artistic talent, as recognized by the editorial board of its association, numerous art experts and national and international publications in which he is published. They added: « Through the promotion of your exceptional body of work, centered on the creation of a new « ism » (« Carsonisme ») at the international level, as well as through your cultural commitment, a new page in the history of Modern Art may be written »

Although professional obligations prevented him from attending the awards ceremony, Charles Carson indicated that he was honored by the recognition bestowed upon him by « Italia in Arte » and expressed his thanks to the association.
During the course of the evening, the significance of the Martin Luther King Human Rights Award was described as follows: As you are no doubt aware, we are celebrating the sixth decade of the signing of the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms in 1948. The Human Rights Award constitutes an essential and integral part of our association. We have thus decided to combine the two themes because of our belief that artists, through their intellectual and artistic commitment, can promote the dissemination of art, social development and, above all, the attainment of individual freedoms for all citizens of the world. The Martin Luther King Human Rights Award has been awarded to selected candidates, including Charles Carson, to incite him to pursue, through his art, the highest human values on the international stage.

Ancillary Information:
For informational purposes take note that the conference dealt with the following subjects:
Who was the real Leonardo De Vinci? Who were the women depicted in the famous « Mona Lisa »? Who was the model for the 1513 portrait? Is it conceivable that the facial imprint on The Holy Shroud was that of Leonardo? These subjects were discussed in speeches presented by scientists, professors and researchers dealing with « the true face of Léonardo de Vinci ».
It is an honor closely associated with moral and cultural values that, we hope, will embellish the artistic and professional curriculum vitae of the recipient.
Guests of honor at the awards ceremony included internationally known celebrities as well as representatives of the church, military and civilians.
